Operational Weather Analysis ... An On-Line Book

"Operational Weather Analysis" Exercise

Drawing a Surface Chart

Exercise Objective: The purpose of this exercise is to draw isobars and fronts on a standard surface chart covering the contiguous United States and adjacent areas.

Provided below is a chart showing surface data for 18 UTC on 26 September 2011. The corresponding visible and infrared satellite images and the National Center for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) surface chart for 6 hours prior to the exercise chart are also shown. The latter provides continuity for your chart. Your task is to transform the 18 UTC data into a chart similar to the 12 UTC history chart by combing the satellite and surface data as part of the analysis process.
